Umberto MALNATI
born on 3rd February 1959 in Bergamo (Italy).
He graduated from the Milan University with a Degree in Jurisprudence and began his diplomatic career in 1988. He was assigned to the Directorate General for Emigration and Social Services within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
From 1989 onwards he began his postings abroad, at the Italian Missions in Accra (Ghana) and in Brasilia (Brazil). After another assignment in Rome at the Diplomatic Legal Services Department for Treaties and Legislative Affairs, he was posted as Embassy Counsellor, from 2000 to 2004, to the Embassy of Italy in Maputo (Mozambique).
He was then appointed Head of Office at the Directorate General for Sub-Saharan African countries within the Ministry, followed by his nomination as Consul General in Rio de Janeiro.
In 2011 he took up his position as Ambassador to Libreville (Gabon) with accreditation to the Economic Community of Central African States. In 2016 he was appointed Ambassador to San Salvador (El Salvador) and accredited to the Central American Integration System.
Following an assignment within the Ministry’s Directorate General for Development Cooperation, on 16th August 2022 he assumed the position of Ambassador of Italy to Harare (Zimbabwe).
He is an Official Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic.
