Among the most famous are those of the Matobo Hills, where hundreds of thousands of rock paintings bear witness to a cultural heritage of extraordinary value, which requires conservation interventions. In support of a long-term conservation programme promoted by UNESCO, between 2018 and 2019 Italy contributed to the conservation of the Domboshawa site both on an academic level, through support for the UNESCO workshop dedicated to its conservation, and through field activities conducted by local restoration experts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2025, WHAPS (World Heritage in Africa: Processes and Strategies) was promoted, a training and cooperation programme created in 2024 from the collaboration between the National School for Cultural Heritage and Activities (SNPAC), established by the Italian Ministry of Culture, and ICCROM, based in Rome. The objective is to strengthen the skills of African professionals in the management and candidacies for UNESCO World Heritage, at the same time enhancing the Italian experience. Zimbabwe hosted the first phase of the project, from 3 to 7 March 2025, at the Great \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Zimbabwe National Monument, bringing together over 60 professionals from 27 Countries. This phase represented an important moment of exchange between African and Italian experts. The programme continued with six months of online mentoring, dedicated to UNESCO candidacies, conservation and heritage impact assessment, and concluded with a three-day in November 2025workshop in Rome.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2019, a course on the protection of cultural heritage was organized by the Carabinieri Corps, in collaboration with the African Union and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was held from 7 to 18 October 2019 in Rome, at which selected students from Zimbabwe were invited to participate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe is home to one of the highest concentrations of rock art in southern Africa, with thousands of sites spread throughout the territory.
