XXVI EDITION OF THE WEEK OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD – FARE CINEMA IN ZIMBABWE

GALLERY FARE CINEMA 20-22 OCTOBER

On the occasion of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Embassy of Italy in Zimbabwe organized the ninth edition of the film review “Fare Cinema”, held from 20 to 22 October 2026 at the Italian Residence.

For each day, a film screening was held, thanks to the “Italian Screens” project, an initiative for the promotion of Italian cinema launched in 2022 from the collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture.

Each film was accompanied by an intervention by a technician who offered the audience the opportunity to learn up close about his professional and personal experience in the world of cinema. These interventions represented a useful moment of in-depth analysis and discussion, to explore not only the speakers’ point of view on the works presented, but also the creative and technical challenges that characterize the process of making a film.

The films selected for this edition of the “Fare Cinema” review were as follows: Corro da te, directed by Riccardo Milani; Le otto Montagne by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch; and 2 cuori e 2 capanne, directed by Massimiliano Bruno. As for the experts from the film industry who shared their experience with the public, the participants were Alessandro Palmerini, production sound mixer and boom operator, and Luciana Pandolfelli, film editor.

The review, which was attended by government representatives, diplomats and members of the Italian community in Zimbabwe, was a great success with the public and represented an important opportunity to promote Italian language and culture in Zimbabwe through cinema. Furthermore, a significant contribution to the realization of the initiative also came from the collaboration with Dante Global Società Dante Alighieri, which offered two scholarships for attendance of online Italian language courses, offering participants a further opportunity to get closer to the Italian language.

For Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Giacalone it was “a valid and fruitful moment to valorise and promote our film industry in Zimbabwe, as well as an effective example of how Italian cultural diplomacy today plays a decisive role in promoting dialogue and building lasting bridges of communication between countries”.
