on the platform Mymovies https://www.mymovies.it/ondemand/southern-africa/
The 21st edition of the Italian film festival will take place from 3 to 16 December 2021 on the MYmovies online platform, geolocated for South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Access will be free. The festival page and the registration procedure will be online shortly.
The program includes 11 acclaimed Italian films, which were presented in the most important international film festivals of 2021 and were appreciated by the public.
All films will be introduced by a short live or recorded presentation by the director or by an actor. The public will be able to interact through a dedicated chat.
The festival will be launched on December 3 at 6:45 pm with the great fresco of the Neapolitan popular theater of QUI RIDO IO by Mario Martone, a film presented at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, with an exceptional cast and a direction that is skillful and attentive to every detail.
The film will be preceded by the opening remarks by the representatives of the Italian Institutions (recorded); by introductions of the president of Controluce Antonio Falduto and the film critic of “L’Espresso” Fabio Ferzetti; by the recorded greeting of the director Mario Martone.
On Saturday 4 December we will present one of the most anticipated films of this year’s Cannes festival, TRE PIANI by Nanni Moretti, based on the novel of the same name by the Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo. It is an analytical and ruthless investigation into the domestic walls of a classic bourgeois apartment building. The film will be introduced by one of the actors, and by the film critic of “Il Mattino” Oscar Cosulich.
On Sunday 5th December it will be the turn of Leonardo Di Costanzo’s ARIAFERMA, a film that was acclaimed at the Venice Film Festival. It narrates the tense but dialectical confrontation within a prison between two opposite characters, played by two stars of our cinema, Toni Servillo and Silvio Orlando. Once more a recorded greeting of the director is expected, preceded by a live introduction by Flavio Natalia, director of the magazine “Ciak”.
As from 9.30 pm on Friday 3 December eight other films will also be available on the platform. They include a kaleidoscope of contemporary situations and characters, ranging from the north to the south of Italy. A display of different genres from the popular and well-established comedy of LIKE A CAT ON A HIGHWAY by Riccardo Milani, to the romantic intimacy of WE STILL TALK by Pupi Avati, from the social drama tinged with dreamlike veils of OUR GHOSTS by Alessandro Capitani, to the most hateful of criminal pathologies, yet narrated with balanced sensitivity in AN UNCERTAIN BORDER by Isabella Sandri, from the dystopian visions of an Italy that seems to be not too far from reality displayed in Alessandro Celli’s DOGWORLD, to the ancient and tangled family conflicts of Andrea Segre’s WELCOME VENICE. Last but not least, Alessandro Gassmann’s third test as film director, IL SILENZIO GRANDE, a well-orchestrated family portrait drawn from the comedy of the acclaimed writer Maurizio Di Giovanni, and the moving and vital EZIO BOSSO, THE THINGS THAT REMAIN by Giorgio Verdelli, a documentary with testimonies of friends like Silvio Orlando, dedicated to the great Italian composer and musician who recently passed away.
The directors’ presentations will be accessible on the Controluce website at a later stage.
In these difficult times of prolonged seclusions, enjoy this unforgettable trip to Italy!
